Basics of renewable energies and ecological engineering 3

Vertiefungen:
Minors: Internationales Profil
Modulkürzel: BSREEE3
ECTS-Credits: 6
Semester: 4

The first topic covered in the module is building physics, namely thermal insulation to improve comfort, minimise energy loss and prevent damage to buildings. You will learn about U-values, heat flows in a building and heating and cooling demand patterns. The second topic is heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, with a focus on energy efficiency. You will learn how to decide which systems are most appropriate for sustainable buildings. You will be introduced to the main functions and components of HVAC, plumbing and domestic hot water (DHW) systems. External experts will explain how to design low energy buildings, including details of the Minergie labels. Finally, you will develop a low energy building case study and use the Polysun simulation tool to calculate the specifications for the technical installations.
